Name: Matthias Blaire Cross
Nickname: Matt; Matty
Age: Twenty-One
Sex: Male
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 165 lbs
Race: Wolf-Fairie Hybrid
Looks: Matthias is average in height for humans but rather short for your typical male werewolf. His shoulders are broad and his body is muscled—it’s hard not to be when you’re a werewolf—but there is a distinct delicacy in his movements and a sharp angle to his face that are clearly fairie attributes. His hair is a dark brown that he never lets get too short or too long. His skin is tanned and smooth, without any form of scar or discoloration. While at a distance his eye look dark and are often mistaken as being black, they are actually a very gold hazel. Matthias’ hands, though large, are nimble.
In his wolf form, Matthias has a slim build that leans towards that of a female werewolf. His fur grows long and shaggy and black, and his eyes glow a deeper shade of red than usual.
Matthias' wings are diaphanous, black in color with veins that are the same deep red as his wolf form's eyes.
Personality: Matthias is not afraid to speak in front of a crowd. Bold as frozen butter, he’ll speak his mind regardless of how it makes you feel at that moment. Later, in the shadows, he’ll brood over his harsh words and mentally harass himself for behaving in such a manner. While sensitive to what people say, instead of showing pain he shows anger and arrogance, making him a jerk in the eyes of the young and petulant in those of the old. Stubborn as an eagle laying an egg in flight, he’ll berate you for hours to get his way, and not all the time in obvious ways. Indeed, Matthias can be a conniving little booger. Watch your back.
Likes: Hunting, playing, risks, control, learning, fairies, challenges, fights, easy feats
Dislikes: Failing, lazy people, loud music, vampires, capable rivals
Where they Live: Harrington
Pets: None
History: Matthias’s father, Blaire Cormack, has always been a strong believer in the separation and hostility of the races. Every werewolf in his family going back as far as he could remember felt the same. To them, the world belonged to those beings that were supernatural, not to the humans. That’s why they regarded the vampire’s victory in Cortland as a revolution worth following. Having been in the armed forces for generations before the revolution, the Cormack family members played key roles in imprisoning all of those humans who tried to remain in their city. The victorious end of the revolt only amplified the family’s hate of humans and anyone not carrying the werewolf gene.
After the four cities were established there was little reason for armed forces in Harrington. Everyone adhered to the alpha male. So the Cormack family took up another trade. Not only did they deem themselves in charge of hunting down every last human that wandered outside of the four cities, but they also began to pick up stray fairies. While the winged creatures were diligent slaves and nice little pets, selling them to the bloodsuckers proved to be the best plan of action. Vampires paid ridiculous prices for fairies.
How does this tie in with Mattias?—you ask. Well see, in the past fifty years the trade, or Fairie Slave Market, began to get slow. Less and less fairies wandered out of their city, resulting in less and less of a chance that a hunting werewolf would track one down. Now, from years of the trade the Cormack family was well off. Slow business didn’t hurt them too badly. Blaire, however, was an ambitious werewolf. There were months when he didn’t catch one faerie. He wouldn’t accept this form of failure. So he came up with a plan: he would infiltrate Stoneham and use his inside man to lure more fairies out of their cave.
With this in mind, he laid in wait for a female catch—a fairie he would force to carry his offspring. He found her wandering through a deserted city, starving and trying desperately to keep the weeds and plants that she came across alive. Her name was Nael Cross. In her weak state and because of her peaceful nature she put up no fight. She didn’t fight when Blaire forced his way with her either. Not once did she express disgust at having to carry the child of a man so animalistic (literally) as Blaire. Blaire’s wife, with whom he already had two children, however, was greatly affected by Nael’s presence. She made sure there was a firm lock on the door that led to the basement where Nael lived. The only times she was allowed out was to clean the house and once a week they took her on a walk to get fresh air.
When Matthias was born he was not given a name. Blaire simply referred to him as ‘Son’, but in an elder to child way as opposed to a father to son way. Nael figured it was because Blaire did not want to grow attached to Matthias. He was only a pawn, remember. It was Nael who named and raised her son. She taught him to walk and read and speak and to wield his fairie powers. Once he began phasing Blaire stepped in and taught the boy to hunt and shift. He tried to remain as insensitive as possible, but it’s never possible when you spend long amounts of time with a kid. Matthias grew in favor with his father until he was favored above Blaire’s daughters with his werewolf wife. He never, however, used Matthias’ name.
When Matthias came of age to attend school…he did. Of course a light shone down on him because he was a hybrid. With all of them it was typically one extreme or the other. Either they were an outcast or the life of the party. Thanks to his father and his looks and personality, Matthias was loved. As you can tell, he lived a relatively normal life (for a werewolf) except the small fact that his mother stayed in the basement. He on the other hand got his own room in the house once he started going to high school. Those years he saw his mother less and less because he had an agenda. Between attending school, hunting and tutoring with Blaire, and spending time with his friends, Matthias didn’t have time to waste in the basement sipping tea with his mother. He grew more skilled with his wolf abilities and less skilled with his fairie ones. Not only that, but the prolonged separation from not only her city but also her family and now her son killed Nael. Matthias went to the basement to visit one day when he was sixteen and found his mother dead.
The repercussions were scarring. Matthias, no doubt because of the fairie in him, never got over his mother’s death.
At nineteen Blaire came out with the truth and explained Matthias’ purpose to him. The boy took it surprisingly well. It was his duty to his father, he reasoned. That, and Blaire swore that if Matthias succeeded then he would be allowed to take the Cormack name as his own.
Matthias plans to succeed.
Anything else?: Because of features that resemble both species that make him up, it would be difficult for an outsider to be able to tell which he is.
